Vol. 480 No. 6

Written Answers - River Maintenance.

Michael Ring

Question:

201 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Finance when the Office of Public Works will clean out a river (details supplied) in County Mayo in view of the fact that the work on a certain area along this river has been requested for several years. [14240/97]

The area in question has been the subject of many representations over the years. It is monitored on an ongoing basis by the Commissioners of Public Works' engineers. The most recent inspection carried out on 5 September 1997 showed that there has been no deterioration in the condition of the channel. The Commissioners of Public Works have no plans to carry out maintenance works there this year but will continue to monitor the area as they have been doing.
