Vol. 480 No. 6

Written Answers - Flood Damage.

Michael Ring

Question:

202 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Finance the solution, if any, Office of Public Works officials found to the flooding problem for a person (details supplied) in County Mayo in view of the fact that the person is unable to return to his house since the floods until something is done to prevent a recurrence. [14242/97]

The Office of Public Works who have inspected the area in question confirm that the flood damage in this case arose as a consequence of torrential localised rainfall on the 12-13 July 1997. They advise that it is not possible to provide complete immunity from such exceptional flood events and have no plans to carry out any works in this area at present.
