Vol. 480 No. 6

Written Answers - Departmental Costs.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

516 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the cost of changing the name and responsibilities of his Department; if such expense will be borne from internal savings or by Supplementary Estimate; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [14850/97]

It is not possible, at this stage, to provide comprehensive costings for the amalgamation process. The final amount is likely to be approximately £ 10,000 covering signage, seals, stamps and stationery which required immediate replacement. Other stationery is being replaced in the ordinary course as stocks run down. I am in no doubt, however, that the Govenment's capacity to deliver services in the areas of justice, equality and law reform will be enhanced by the amalgamation and any outlays that may arise will be justified by this enhancement.

I confirm that the amalgamation will not give rise to any Supplementary Estimate.
