Written Answers. - Offshore Islands.

Enda Kenny

Question:

204 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands the number of PAYE inhabitants on each offshore islands; the number of benefit recipients on each offshore island; the proposals, if any, she has, and the amount involved, to pay the inhabitants an island allowance; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [15724/97]

: I will forward the information requested on PAYE inhabitants and benefit recipients on each offshore island to the Deputy as soon as I receive it from the relevant Department's offices. The question of a special islander allowance is among the questions at present under consideration with a view to improving living conditions for people whose permanent place of residence is on an offshore island.
