Vol. 481 No. 2

Written Answers. - Consultancy Contracts.

Mary Hanafin

Question:

98 Ms Hanafin asked the Minister for Finance the number of consultants, if any, engaged by his Department between 1 April 1997 and 26 June 1997; the amounts paid to each consultant; the work undertaken by each consultant; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15856/97]

In the period 1 April 1997 to 26 June 1997 the only contract awarded was that to Arthur Andersen to examine and make recommendations about the financial management and control systems relating to the operation of the European Regional Development Fund, the EU Cohesion Fund and the EFTA Cohesion Fund by the Department of Finance, implementing Departments and agencies and bodies under their aegis. The total cost of this contract inclusive of VAT is £126,445.

Michael Ring

Question:

99 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Finance if an application for a wine licence for a person (details supplied) in County Mayo will be accepted and approved in spite of the fact that the rateable value of her property is too low due to its location. [15873/97]

The application in this case is for a wine retailer's on-licence. The relevant legislation provides that such licences may be granted only in respect of premises with a certain minimum rateable valuation. As the valuation for the applicant's premises is less than the minimum valuation required, the Revenue Commissioners are not empowered to grant the licence sought.

In certain circumstances, premises may be reassessed for valuation purposes and it is open to the person involved to apply to the local authority to have this done.
