Vol. 481 No. 2

Written Answers. - Traffic Control Measures.

Frances Fitzgerald

Question:

125 Ms Fitzgerald asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the initiatives, if any, he intends to take to ensure that traffic calming measures are implemented in the south inner suburban area of Dublin; and if he will make a capital allocation in order to tackle this problem. [15875/97]

The initiation and financing of traffic calming measures is in principle a matter for the road authority concerned. The National Roads Authority may assist such measures in relation to national roads and the Dublin Transportation office in relation to works within its area. Given these arrangements, my Department does not now allocate grants for the direct financing of particular traffic calming proposals.
