Brendan Howlin

Question:

43 Mr. Howlin asked the Minister for Finance if his attention has been drawn to the proposals within his Department for the establishment of a national claims agency to deal with claims against the State and its agents; whether he intends to proceed with the development of these proposals; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15695/97]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 36 and 43 together.

These proposals were drawn to my attention soon after the Government came into office and preliminary consideration was given to the matter by the Government since then. Draft heads of a Bill are in course of preparation and are expected to be submitted to Government before the end of the year.
