Vol. 481 No. 2

Written Answers. - Hearing Impairment Claims.

John Browne

Question:

75 Mr. Browne (Wexford) asked the Minister for Defence the reason a person (details supplied) in County Wexford was refused consideration by his Department for compensation in respect of hearing damage while serving in the Defence Forces in spite of the fact that others in the same circumstances have actually received such compensation. [15842/97]

The person in question was discharged from the Defence Forces in 1945. There is no record of his having applied for a disability pension under the Army Pensions Acts at any time since his discharge. As the statutory time limit has long since elapsed in his case, an application cannot be accepted from him at this stage. It is open to the person named to seek the advice of his solicitor as to what other course is available to him in this matter.

Mary Hanafin

Question:

76 Ms Hanafin asked the Minister for Defence the number of consultants, if any, engaged by his Department between 1 April 1997 and 26 June 1997; the amounts paid to each consultant; the work undertaken by each consultant; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15860/97]
