The Road Traffic (Public Service Vehicles) (Amendment) Regulations, 1995 set out a structure of fees in relation to the grant, renewal and transfer of taxi licences and wheelchair accessible taxi licences. The regulations also give power to licensing authorities to amend any or all of those fees, and a number of local authorities have made such amendments.
The 1995 Regulations, as amended by the Road Traffic (Public Service Vehicles) (Amendment) Regulations, 1997, also set out criteria to be applied to the assessment of applications for the grant of taxi licences and wheelchair accessible taxi licences where the number of applications exceeds the number of licences to be granted. These criteria vary in relation to new and existing taximeter areas and provide for the addition or deduction of points, as appropriate, for holding a taxi licence, a hackney licence, a public service vehicle driving licence or an ordinary driving licence. Copies of the regulations are available in the Oireachtas Library.
