Vol. 481 No. 7

Written Answers. - Official Travel.

Emmet Stagg

Question:

173 Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for Finance the number of trips made by Irish civil servants in his Department over the past two years on official business to Luxembourg; and the cost of those trips. [17131/97]

Costs of £30,362.68 were incurred by my Department in respect of 42 trips undertaken by officials on commercial airlines between 1 October 1995 and 30 September 1997. This is not the net cost to the Exchequer as some of the above trips were recoupable from the European Commission.

In addition costs were incurred by the Department of Defencce in respect of journeys undertaken by my predecessor on Air Corps aircraft or on the air taxi, leased by the Government for the duration of the Irish Presidency of the EU, on which he would have been accompanied by officials.
