Vol. 481 No. 7

Written Answers. - Official Travel.

Emmet Stagg

Question:

228 Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the number of trips made by Irish civil servants in his Department over the past two years on official business to Luxembourg; and the cost of those trips. [17131/97]

In the calendar years 1995 and 1996, officials of the Department of Justice and the Department of Equality and Law Reform made 11 trips on official business to Luxembourg using commercial flights. Taking refunds received from the EU in respect of air travel into account, the net cost of the trips to the Departments was £7,184. I understand that the final cost of one trip has yet to be determined.

In addition, in June 1996, the Minister for Justice, accompanied by seven officials, travelled on the Government jet to Luxembourg for an EU Council meeting of Justice and Home Affairs Ministers.
