Vol. 481 No. 7

Written Answers. - Teacher Appointments.

Question:

281 Dr. Upton asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will provide an extra teacher for a school (details supplied) in Dublin 12. [16825/97]

The staffing of a national school for a particular year is determined by the enrolment of the school on 30 September of the previous year.

The enrolment of the school referred to by the Deputy on 30 September 1996 was 407 pupils. This enrolment warrants a staffing of a principal and 13 assistant teachers for the current school year.

In addition to the staffing mentioned above, I am pleased to inform the Deputy that sanction has been given for the appointment of an extra permanent assistant teacher in order to allow the school comply with maximum class size guidelines.
