Vol. 481 No. 7

Written Answers. - School Refuribihmentnt.

Ulick Burke

Question:

310 Mr. U. Burke asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will provide the necessary funding for the essential repairs to a school (details supplied) in County Galway which is in urgent need of repairs; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17156/97]

In general, maintenance and repair of national schools are matters for the board of management of the schools and should be funded from the capitation grant.

The school to which the Deputy refers has applied to my Department for a number of capital improvement works. Architectural staff visited the school recently and their report is currently under consideration. My Department will be in touch with the school shortly with a decision in the matter.
