Vol. 481 No. 7

Written Answers. - Passports for Investment Scheme.

Pat Rabbitte

Question:

50 Mr. Rabbitte asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the review, if any, it is intended to conduct in the passports for investment scheme; the terms of reference of the review; when it will be completed; if he will take the opportunity to carry out a wider review of the entire system of naturalisation for non-nationals, particularly in view of the difficulties experienced by many seeking Irish citizenship; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17000/97]

The position with regard to the investment based naturalisation scheme is that the Government have asked me to bring forward a report on the general issue of the future of this scheme. I would hope to do that in the near future. With regard to naturalisation generally, the position is that I am reviewing all aspects of policy and procedures relating to non-nationals.
