Vol. 481 No. 7

Written Answers. - Victims of Crime Charter.

Ruairí Quinn

Question:

72 Mr. Quinn asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform whether the charter for the victims of crime, the implementation of which is promised in An Action Programme for the New Millennium, will be a new document or if it is that which was approved by the previous Government and published by his predecessor. [17072/97]

As pointed out in the Action Plan for the Millennium, the needs of victims must be central in the Government's policy towards crime. As a reflection of that view, I intend to publish a new charter for the victims of crime as soon as possible. The process of consultation with the appropriate bodies has already started and will include a conference on victims of crime in early December.
