Vol. 481 No. 7

Written Answers. - Mooring Licences.

Enda Kenny

Question:

119 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources the role or responsibility, if any, of his Department in the granting of licences for marine moorings; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17245/97]

The placing of structures, including moorings on, or the occupation of, State owned foreshore, requires permission by way of lease or licence in accordance with the requirements of the Foreshore Acts which are administered by my Department.

All applications for foreshore licences in respect of moorings are vetted to ensure that there is no adverse impact on navigational safety, fishing or the environment. The public consultation process consists of a newspaper notice, public availability of maps, drawings, etc. and public hearings, if necessary.
