Vol. 482 No. 1

Written Answers. - Lottery Funding.

Ivor Callely

Question:

24 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation the procedures in place to assist a sporting or recreational facility when faced with financial difficulties; if a facility (details supplied) in Dublin 5 has applied for a national lottery grant; if this application will be given priority; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17166/97]

The sports capital programme currently operated by my Department provides grants to voluntary community organisations who may apply for the provision of, improvements to and equipping of recreational, leisure and community facilities.

An application was received under this particular scheme in June for grant aid towards capital works to the facility to which the Deputy refers, following the final round of 1997 approvals under the scheme the previous month.

The application will be considered in the context of future allocations to the scheme, and next year's allocation will be determined in the context of the 1998 Estimates.
