58 Proinsias De Rossa asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation the steps, if any, being taken to implement the commitment given in An Action Programme for the Millennium regarding the appointment of local authority sport and leisure officers; the additional funding, if any, he will give to local authorities to provide for this; and if he will make a statement on the matter. I will be progressing work on the sport and recreation commitments outlined in An Action Programme for the Millennium over the coming months. In particular, I will be developing proposals on the most effective way of delivering sport and recreation at a local level including discussions with my colleague, the Minister for the Environment and Local Government, on progressing the proposal to appoint local authority sport and leisure officers.
