Vol. 482 No. 1

Written Answers. - Residential Placement.

Róisín Shortall

Question:

95 Ms Shortall asked the Minister for Health and Children further to Parliamentary Question 171 of 7 October 1997, if he will give consideration to Deputy Shortall's request for a special allocation to fund an essential residential place for the young woman referred to, in view of the fact that the Eastern Health Board does not have resources for this special case and has applied for a special allocation; and if he will reply positively in this regard. [17396/97]

In addition to the funding allocated to the Eastern Health Board region in 1997 for new service developments, I have to date allocated further additional funding amounting to over £570,000 to the Eastern Health Board to meet the cost of emergency placements for persons with a mental handicap up to the end of this year. It is a matter for the board to determine, on a case by case basis, how this funding is expended.
