Vol. 482 No. 2

Adjournment Debate Matters.

I wish to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given under Standing Order 21 and the name of the member in each case: (1) Deputy Kirk — the need to make urgent representations to the Northern Ireland Office in relation to hilltop lookout posts dotted across south Armagh, with a view to having them dismantled and removed in light of the current ceasefire and ongoing peace talks; (2) Deputy Durkan — the need for this State to reiterate its abhorrence at the continued use of the death penalty by various authorities throughout the world; (3) Deputy Lawlor — the proposals for a £27 million educational complex at Blanchardstown, Dublin 15 put forward by the National College of Industrial Relations and being planned by the Higher Education Authority in the context of the urgent need for a site to accommodate the Blanchardstown Regional Technical College project already sanctioned; (4) Deputy Stagg — the serious risk to the health of the residents of Naas, County Kildare following the contamination of the water supply by sewage; (5) Deputy McDowell — the pending revocation of the licence of the Blood Transfusion Service Board, Cork by the Irish Medicines Board; (6) Deputy Penrose — the claims by the president of the Irish Creamery Milk Suppliers' Association that 100 farmers are being forced to leave the land every week and the measures being taken to reverse the trend; (7) Deputy Broughan — the need to amend the legislation in relation to special amenity area orders; (8) Deputy Kenny — the Government's proposal to create a global sanctuary for whales which could have the effect of removing the existing worldwide moratorium on commercial whaling and allow renewed whaling in coastal waters with devastating effects on a number of whale species.

The matters raised by Deputies Kirk, Durkan, Stagg and McDowell have been selected for discussion.
