Vol. 482 No. 2

Written Answers - Wheelchair Access.

Theresa Ahearn

Question:

43 Mrs. T. Ahearn asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands if all public buildings under the aegis of her Department are accessible to wheelchair users; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [17317/97]

Generally speaking, the offices, visitor centres and other public buildings under the direct control of my Department are accessible to wheelchair users. In a number of cases where access is not possible, investigations are ongoing with a view to taking steps, through the provision of lifts, for example, to improve the situation. My Department is also committed to ensuring that the design of any new offices and visitor centres will mean that such facilities will be fully accessible to wheelchair users.
