Vol. 482 No. 2

Written Answers - Arts Centres.

Michael Moynihan

Question:

50 Mr. M. Moynihan asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands the current progress on the application for the Duhallow Arts and Culture Centre under the cultural development incentives scheme which is being administered in her Department under the Operational Programme for Tourism 1994-99 in view of the high standard of this project, the immense value which it will bring to the local community and the creation of much needed employment in the area. [17316/97]

The promoters of the Duhallow Arts and Culture Centre project were advised on 25 June 1997 that the application submitted under phase II of the cultural development incentives scheme had not been successful at that stage. However, they were further informed that the project had been placed on a stand-by list of projects which would be reconsidered for grant assistance in the event that some of the projects which have received offers, in principle, of grant assistance under the scheme were not in a position to proceed within the timescale of the current round of Structural Funds, which expires at the end of 1999. At this point in time I do not foresee a situation whereby funding will become available in this scenario. However, if such a scenario should arise, I will be in contact with the promoters of projects on the stand-by list at the appropriate time.
