138 Mr. M. Moynihan asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the number of cereal growers who were paid arable aid and the total amount paid to date in 1997; and the number of cereal growers who were paid arable aid and the total amount paid in 1996. [17890/97]

The following table shows the number of farmers paid arable aid as of today's date and at the same date in 1996.

The total number of applicants paid in respect of 1996 at 31 December 1996 was 17,076 and the total amount paid was £87,613,235.
