Question:

261 Mr. L. Burke asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government when the last extensions were granted to the county borough boundaries of Cork, Limerick, Waterford and Galway; the economic advantages, if any, resulting from these extensions; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17975/97]

The last boundary extensions in respect of the cities mentioned are set out in the following table:

Provision for financial adjustments to take account of the financial implications of boundary extensions for the local authorities concerned was included in the relevant legislation. Current legislation on boundary extensions is contained in Part V of the Local Government Act, 1991 and associated regulations.
