Vol. 482 No. 3

Written Answers. - Structural Guarantee Scheme.

Noel O'Flynn

Question:

265 Mr. O'Flynn asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he will outline the options available to a person who feels he has a definite grievance in the event of a difference regarding the interpretation of the ten year guarantee system offered to home purchasers to guarantee them against serious defects in their new homes. [17988/97]

The structural guarantee scheme for new houses is operated by the National House Building Guarantee Company Limited, a private company under the auspices of the house building industry. I understand the scheme provides for an arbitration procedure where there is a dispute between a house purchaser and the guarantee company.
