Vol. 482 No. 3

Written Answers. - Driving Licences.

John Perry

Question:

303 Mr. Perry asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he will have arrangements made to review the case of a person (details supplied) in County Sligo in view of the fact that several years have elapsed since the restrictions applied. [17630/97]

The endorsement of driving licences is a matter for the courts and I have no power to intervene.

In accordance with the terms of the Road Traffic Act, 1961, as amended, an endorsement is required to be carried on a driving licence for a period of three continuous years.

The person referred to by the Deputy did not hold a driving licence from the date the restrictions were imposed until June. Under the legislation the endorsements have been recorded on the licence. I have no power to intervene in the matter but it is, of course, open to the person to appeal the endorsements to a higher court.
