Vol. 482 No. 3

Written Answers. - Garda Stations.

Brian O'Shea

Question:

304 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the plans, if any, he has for the provision of new Garda stations or for the refurbishment of existing Garda stations in the Waterford constituency; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17746/97]

The information sought by the Deputy is listed hereunder.

Major work commenced recently on extending and refurbishing Waterford Divisional Headquarters and the project is expected to be completed in twelve months.

Replacement or major refurbishment of the Garda station at Kilmacthomas is planned. It is not possible at this stage to say when the refurbishment work will commence.

It is proposed to build a new station to replace the existing Garda station at Ballyduff. The Office of Public Works has been asked to examine the existing site to see if there is sufficient space for this purpose.

It is planned to review requirements at Passage East Garda station in the near future.

In addition to the above, ongoing maintenance work is continuing on Garda stations in the constituency of Waterford.
