Question:

329 Ms McManus asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the number of persons charged before the Special Criminal Court for each of the years from 1990 to 1995; the Acts of the Oireachtas under which successful prosecutions were brought in each of these years; the total number of successful prosecutions brought under each Act in each year; the Acts under which unsuccessful prosecutions were brought in each of these years, and the total number of unsuccessful prosecutions brought under each Act in each year. Statistics on the number of persons charged and subsequently convicted or acquitted by the Special Criminal Court in the years ending 31 Decenber 1990 to 31 December 1996 are set out on the table below. Court statistics are collected on the basis of the number of cases processed by the courts and do not provide information on the nature of the offences before the court.
