Vol. 482 No. 3

Written Answers. - School Transport.

Michael Ring

Question:

410 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Education and Science whether a pick-up point for school transport of a person (details supplied) in County Mayo could be reverted back to the situation of three years ago, in view of the fact that it would not affect the service for others and would cost nothing extra. [18069/97]

The pick-up point in question was changed to accommodate a larger bus on this route. I regret that an extension of the service in the evenings is not possible, as the vehicle operates another service and there are time constraints involved.

The family referred to by the Deputy reside 0.3 miles from the present pick-up point in the morning and 0.9 miles from the set-down point in the evening. Since the current level of service is considered to be very reasonable in the overall context of the school transport scheme, I regret that it is not possible to change the route as requested.
