Vol. 482 No. 3

Written Answers. - Murder of Irish Citizen.

Brendan Howlin

Question:

47 Mr. Howlin asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs the contact, if any, he has had with the South African authorities in connection with the murder of a person (details supplied); and if he will make a statement on the matter. [18093/97]

This person, an Irish citizen who worked in South Africa for more than 37 seven years, was tragically murdered on 24 October. I take this opportunity to express my sincere condolences to his family and friends.

The Embassy in Pretoria is in contact with the South African police in the area where the crime took place. They are following a definite line of inquiry which they hope will lead to the early apprehension of the culprit.
