Written Answers - Job Creation.

John Perry

Question:

26 Mr. Perry asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment the current position regarding the implementation of a commitment given to the IDA to apply a special focus to rural areas in order to locate multinational industry; the progress, if any, there has been in securing tele-service type industry for rural Ireland; and the commitment being given by the IDA towards rural communities in the west of Ireland in locating such industries in these areas. [18269/97]

Michael Creed

Question:

64 Mr. Creed asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment the proposals, if any, she has to ensure proper regional distribution of new job opportunities; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [17610/97]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 26 and 64 together.

I am fully conscious of the need to ensure the most equitable regional distribution of job opportunities. In this respect, I have spoken to the chief executive officers of both IDA Ireland and Forbairt. I have impressed on them the crucial importance which this Government attaches to making even greater efforts to provide employment throughout the country. I am satisfied this message is fully understood and that the industrial development agencies involved are doing all they can to realise a more balanced regional distribution of jobs.
