Vol. 482 No. 6

Written Answers. - Health and Safety Policy.

David Stanton

Question:

174 Mr. Stanton asked the Minister for Defence the proposals, if any, he has to ensure compliance with health and safety legislation in view of the fact that overcoats are not issued to members of the FCA for wear with service dress for military duties during inclement weather and ponchos and wet gear are not permitted to be worn on these occasions. [19060/97]

The Defence Forces Advisory Committee on Safety is satisfied that adequate protective clothing is available to the members of An Fórsa Cosanta Áitiúil and that the Defence Forces safety policy is being complied with. The overcoat was withdrawn recently from the scale of clothing available to the FCÁ and was replaced with a combat uniform and other articles of protective clothing which the members had been seeking for a number of years.
