Question:

433 Mr. G. Reynolds asked the Minister for Education and Science the number of third level students completing their first year of college who have to repeat a subject at the end of the first year. [18486/97]

Approximately 3,900 students sat autumn repeats in 1997 in the following institutions: National University of Ireland, Dublin, National University of Ireland, Cork, National University of Ireland, Galway, National University of Ireland, Maynooth, St. Angela's College of Education, Sligo, Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, Trinity College, Dublin, Dublin City University, the University of Limerick and the National College of Art and Design.

Statistics are not available in my Department in relation to the third level technological sector.
