Vol. 482 No. 6

Written Answers. - Overloaded Lorries.

Michael Ferris

Question:

24 Mr. Ferris asked the Minister for Public Enterprise if her attention has been drawn to the serious effect of overloaded lorries on roads from a safety viewpoint; if she will introduce legislation to make the consigner of such loads responsible in law; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [14939/97]

It is my intention to publish the Road Transport Bill in the next session of the Dáil. The Bill will contain a provision designed to amend the Road Traffic Acts to make consignors liable to prosecution in cases of overweight haulage.
