Vol. 482 No. 7

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Eamon Gilmore

Question:

96 Mr. Gilmore asked the Minister for Education and Science if his Department intends to allocate funds to County Waterford Vocational Education Committee for the building of a second level school in Ring, County Waterford; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [19227/97]

My Department's planning and building unit has agreed in principle to provide a new school building in place of Scoil San Nioclas in Ring, County Waterford which has come under the aegis of the County Waterford Vocational Education Committee.

However, it will be necessary for County Waterford Vocational Education Committee to find a suitable site for this new facility. The architectural planning of the new building will commence as soon as the site has been acquired. The question of allocating funds for construction will not arise until architectural planning has been completed.

Ulick Burke

Question:

97 Mr. U. Burke asked the Minister for Education and Science the current stage of planning for the proposed amalgamation of two schools (details supplied) in County Galway; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [19252/97]

The two schools to which the Deputy refers have agreed in principle to amalgamate on condition that a major extension is provided at one of the school buildings to facilitate the operation of the newly amalgamated school. My Department's architectural service is carrying out an assessment of the scope of the required work. My Department will contact the school managements on completion of this assessment.
