Vol. 482 No. 8

Written Answers. - Debtors' Prison Renovation.

Marian McGennis

Question:

185 Ms M. McGennis asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the current situation regarding the contribution from his Department towards the renovation of the Debtors Prison, Green Street, Dublin 7 by the Green Street Trust; and if the time limit on the funding will be increased to allow completion of the financial package. [19354/97]

A conservation grant of £75,000 was allocated to the Green Street Trust in 1996 under measure 4 of sub-programme 3 of the Operational Programme for Local Urban and Rural Development. The trust was unable to take up all the allocated grant in 1996 and a balance of £70,162.50 remains to be claimed. I understand that the trust will not be in a position to claim the balance of the grant in 1997. Consideration will be given to reallocating the balance to the trust in 1998, subject to the trust being in a position to take up that balance next year.
