Michael Creed

Question:

214 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs if his Department has received an application for funding from an organisation (details supplied) in County Cork; if this project meets with the criteria laid down by his Department for funding for resource centres; when the Department's funding for such projects will be allocated; and if his Department will approve funding for this application. [19540/97]

It is proposed to take Questions Nos. 208 and 214 together.

An application form for the 1997 scheme of grants for voluntary organisations, issued to the organisation in question in March 1997. However, the organisation did not return a completed form to my Department and, therefore, it was not possible to consider them for funding.

The organisation wrote to my Department in September 1997 seeking inclusion in the family resource centre scheme. The FRC scheme is a pilot scheme on an approach to providing support to families through the provision of resource centres at local level. A review of the pilot has been carried out and my Department is currently examining proposals for extending the scheme. The organisation's application for inclusion in the FRC scheme will be reviewed when the examination is completed.

In the meantime staff from my Department's regional office are meeting with representatives of the organisation to advise them regarding the submission of an application for funding under the scheme of grants to voluntary organisations in 1998.
