Vol. 482 No. 8

Written Answers. - Tourism Marketing Strategy.

Bernard Allen

Question:

258 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation the reason there is no marketing strategy to attract tourists from Taiwan to Ireland; and if he will consider utilising the offices of the IDA in Taiwan to market Ireland as a tourist destination. [19514/97]

I have no statutory function in this matter as Bord Fáilte has overall responsibility for the promotion of Ireland overseas and the implementation of selected marketing programmes in target countries. It would also be a matter for Bord Fáilte to decide on the appropriateness of introducing a specific promotional campaign in Taiwan and the best means of doing so, having regard to the tourism potential from that country and the number of Taiwanese travelling to Ireland.
