Vol. 483 No. 1

Written Answers. - Marine Accidents.

Brian O'Shea

Question:

109 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources when the report of the investigation regarding a ship (details supplied) which sank on 4 February 1996 will be published; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [19935/97]

As the Deputy may be aware, a report of the investigation into the sinking of the F.V. Jenalisa has recently been completed by the Marine Survey Office of my Department and has been transmitted to the Attorney General's office for legal vetting.

It is my intention to have the report published as quickly as possible, subject to this normal legal consideration. I very much regret the time this investigation has taken and appreciate that it has been a cause of concern to the families of those who lost their lives in this tragic incident.

I assure the Deputy that every effort will be made by my Department to expedite the legal vetting process and that publication of the report will occur as soon as possible.
