Vol. 483 No. 2

Written Answers. - Coastal Protection.

Liz McManus

Question:

92 Ms McManus asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources when his Department will present the amended Bray coastal protection scheme to Bray Urban District Council, County Wicklow in view of the urgent need in this regard and the continuing deterioration of the South Pier; if his Department will act swiftly in this matter; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [19955/97]

As the Deputy will be aware, a new design option for the Bray coastal protection scheme was identified during the late summer. As a result of this and the need to ensure that the best possible scheme is put in place at Bray, I decided, with the agreement of Bray Urban District Council, to have a performance assessment of all the design options carried out by consulting engineers. This assessment has now been completed and is being studied by my Department. I intend to forward the results of the assessment to Bray UDC shortly in order to inform final decisions on the protection scheme.
