Vol. 483 No. 3

Written Answers. - Pre-School Education.

Richard Bruton

Question:

323 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands whether Irish language pre-schools will, in future, become the responsibility of the Department of Education and Science as part of the evolving national policy for pre-school provision being undertaken by that Department. [20211/97]

While financial assistance for Irish language pre-schooling is provided by Bord na Gaeilge and Údarás na Gaeltachta, I understand that my colleague, the Minister for Education and Science, is currently planning for a national forum on early childhood education which will provide an important input into policy decisions on the future development of pre-school education services, including services provided by Irish language pre-schools.
