Vol. 483 No. 3

Written Answers. - School Accommodation.

David Stanton

Question:

367 Mr. Stanton asked the Minister for Education and Science when he intends to appoint a mediator to report on the situation in relation to the gaelscoil in Cobh, County Cork; the person he intends to appoint to act as mediator; and when this person will report. [20213/97]

The question of providing satisfactory alternative accommodation for gaelscoil Sheáin Uí Éigeartaigh, in Cobh, is being pursued by my Department as a matter of urgency. Generally, there are two options for the provision of such accommodation. One option would be to secure existing school accommodation which has become surplus to requirements due to falling enrolments. The other option would be to provide a new school building on a new site. These options are currently being considered. There is no requirement for a mediator. I have met with parents and a support committee. I am also prepared to meet with the board of management of the school and have undertaken to consult with all interested parties concerning the matter.
