Vol. 483 No. 3

Written Answers. - Local Authority Funding.

Dick Spring

Question:

67 Mr. Spring asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if his Department will make available the special funding required to carry out the necessary works to the Kenmare to Castletownbere road in accordance with the proposals submitted by Kerry County Council. [20246/97]

The application submitted by Kerry County Council to my Department for funding of £300,000 in 1998 for works on the R571 Kenmare-Lauragh road under the EU co-financed scheme of grants is currently under consideration, in conjunction with other applications under the EU co-financed scheme.

Decisions on the selection of projects will depend on their compliance with EU eligibility criteria, the need to prioritise projects, competing demands from other local authorities and the funds available for the scheme in 1998.

I hope to announce grant allocations, including EU co-financed grants, to individual local authorities as early as possible in 1998.
