68 Mr. Wall asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the plans, if any, he has to upgrade the nation's swimming pools in view of the recent remarks by the executive chairperson of the Irish Sports Council. [17303/97]
A sum of £3.5 million has been provided in my Department's Estimates for 1997 for the building of new swimming pools and the refurbishment of existing pools.
Thirty-six new pools and refurbishment proposals, at various stages of planning, have been submitted to my Department; they have a total estimated cost of £55.8 million. Each will be advanced as money becomes avaialble.
