Vol. 483 No. 3

Written Answers. - Herd Numbers.

Michael Ring

Question:

142 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food when a person (details supplied) in County Mayo will be approved for a herd number. [20231/97]

The person named applied for a herd-number on 11 November 1997 and indicated on his application that he owned a flock of sheep. He did not indicate that he owned cattle.

In such circumstances, a farmer who does not own cattle usually applies for a dormant herd-number to facilitate payment of sheep grants. As a result consideration is usually given to the application when he or she submits an application for grants under sheep headage and ewe premium schemes.

When the person named submits an application under the 1998 sheep headage and ewe premium schemes his application for a dormant herd number will then be processed.
