Vol. 483 No. 4

Written Answers. - School Placement.

Brian O'Shea

Question:

139 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will provide a suitable place in the education system for a person (details supplied) in County Waterford; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [20718/97]

I am not aware of the case referred to by the Deputy.

The selection and enrolment of pupils in second level schools is, in the first instance, the responsibility of individual schools. In exceptional circumstances, my Department provides assistance to parents who encounter difficulty in securing a school placement. Inquiries are currently being made to ascertain the circumstances of this case and every effort will be made to find a suitable placement for the child as soon as possible.
