Vol. 483 No. 4

Written Answers. - Modern Languages Pilot Project.

John Bruton

Question:

141 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for Education and Science the schools, if any, in County Meath which will be included in the pilot scheme for the teaching of modern continental languages in primary schools. [20720/97]

A circular is being sent to the chairpersons of boards of management and to principals of all primary schools this week giving them details of the pilot project in modern languages. Schools will be asked to complete a questionnaire and to indicate if they wish to be considered for participation in the project. On receipt of the completed documentation approximately 200 county schools will be selected for participation.

Authorities of schools in County Meath which indicate in their replies to the questionnaire that they wish to be included in the project will have their applications considered with all the other applications.
