Vol. 483 No. 4

Written Answers. - Teacher Allowances.

Michael Ring

Question:

142 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Education and Science whether a teacher is allowed to retain their privileged assistant status or privileged assistant's allowance when they resign as a principal in one school to take up the position of assistant in another school in view of the fact that he has not answered this question in full on two previous occasions. [20721/97]

A principal teacher whose school is either closed or amalgamated is entitled to retain the status of privileged assistant, along with the appropriate allowance, for the remainder of his/her teaching career unless she/he voluntarily takes a post which carries a higher level of allowance.

A privileged assistant who accepts a post of principal which carries a higher allowance than the privileged assistant's allowance, and later voluntary resigns that post to take up a position of assistant in another school, forfeits the status of privileged assistant along with the appropriate allowance.
