Vol. 483 No. 6

Written Answers. - Crime Policy.

Question:

435 Dr. Upton asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the plans, if any, he has to establish a crime council involving statutory and voluntary agencies, businesses, Garda and other groups interested in crime policy; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21568/97]

I will shortly be announcing the establishment of a national crime forum which will sit early next year. The forum will sit in public over a number of weeks and its deliberations will assist with the further development of crime policy. The views of the forum will also be taken into account in deciding on the form and composition of a broadly based national crime council, which I will be establishing in 1998.
