Vol. 483 No. 6

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Brian O'Shea

Question:

483 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Education and Science the current position regarding the proposed amalgamation of the Sacred Heart of Mary secondary school, Waterford and the Slieverue vocational school, County Kilkenny; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21137/97]

It is proposed to amalgamate the convent of the Sacred Heart, Ferrybank and Slieverue vocational school and provide a new community school. Following the results of a feasibility study carried out on the proposal, it has been decided to locate this new facility on the Ferrybank site. Arrangements are under way for the selection of consultants to participate on the Department's design team for the building works. When the design team has been appointed, architectural planning will begin. It is not possible to say at this point when construction will commence.
